CANstruction 2021 Schedule
Registration Deadline - October 6th
Kick-off Meeting - October 14th at noon (virtual)
Build Out - January 23rd and 24th
DeCANstruction - February 1st

2021 Theme: Children's Books

It is our plan to host CANstruction in-person in January. However, we will be offering a virtual option to those teams who aren’t comfortable signing up for an in-person event. Choose virtual or in-person participation during registration.

What will virtual participation look like?
You’ll do all the steps you normally would for CANstruction, aside from the actual build-out. You’ll still need to put together an order form and fundraise for your cans. You have to raise enough funds to pay for your cans in order to participate virtually. We’ll print a poster of your rendering for display at the National Building Museum and you’re team will still be eligible for the awards.

Canstruction is a nationwide program that aims to raise awareness about hunger. In DC, Canstruction is organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation as a creative design-build competition that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank through donations of canned goods. Teams from architecture and design firms from Washington, DC use their skills to build sculptures out of cans of food. The nutritious shelf-stable food is donated to the CAFB for distribution to those in need after the event.
