Join AIA|DC Urban Design Committee (UD|DC) for our monthly committee meetings to plan for the year and engage in the “UD|DC Colloquy”.
At the meetings, the committee explores ideas that focus on improving the quality of cities and city life through engagement, promotion, and advocacy of Urban Design. Planning, transit, landscape, policy, architecture, and design would be common themes of regular lectures, panels, tours, and discussions.
The “UD|DC colloquy” carves out time from these meetings to examine ties between the 2021 committee theme - “Happy City by DESIGN” and real-world scenarios. Each month, the committee will partake in discussion by either:
- Engaging with a participating presenter, sharing their thoughts on how the theme interacts with their day-to-day experiences, projects, and life in general, followed by a quick Q&A session
- Or, reviewing a selected article (circulated beforehand) and participating in an engaging discussion alongside a guest facilitator.
The aim of this dialogue is the discovery and exchange of ideas on what “Happy City by DESIGN” might mean to all and sundry, while exploring thoughts on how designers can assist in crafting a pleasant urban environment.
