Tools of the Trade - Session 3: Model Building

Learn to think like an architect by learning about the tools of their trade. These classes are designed to be introductory courses, and will take place on Saturdays at the District Architecture Center. Tools of the Trade is taught by talented design professionals working in Washington DC metropolitan area architecture firms.

Tools of the Trade is designed for ages 10-12.


Session 1: Photography

The workshop will focus on how photography can be used as a tool for architects and other designers to document their work. Students will learn about composition, light, and tools used to create a good photograph. Depending on the weather, students will have an opportunity to go out and photograph the neighborhood. (Parents will need to stay for the field trip.)

Session 2: Drawing

The workshop will focus on drawing skills needed to explore ideas designers have: scale, angle, how to maintain a sketchbook of ideas.

Session 3: Model Building

Saturday, November 9, 2019
Students will learn how to put their drawings into 3D models, with a focus on scale, materials, and problem solving. Presented by the Asian American Designers Union.
