Lunchtime Learning: Minimize Design Risk Through Model Automation Paired with Expert Analysis

Many design constructability and code issues can linger and become problematic as the construction lifecycle progresses. This leads to an abundance of RFIs, change orders, and project delays.

Coda has developed a process to identify, analyze, and put a spotlight on common design constructability and code issues within design documents that may balloon into major challenges during construction. This session will explore Coda’s process developing a custom solution that combines proprietary algorithms, scripts, and Revit plug-ins developed in Dynamo, Python, and C# with expert analysis to resolve these common design constructability and code issues. The session will help participants apply and implement strategies to resolve these common issues.

Coda’s process was developed from key challenges identified by over 100 construction professionals as key items that if solved during the design phase would help reduce RFI’s and change orders to reduce costs, avoid schedule delays, and improve quality of design and delivery.

These processes can help designers produce or augment their current processes to produce higher quality, coordinated, and code compliant design documents and improve construction outcomes. The session will help participants analyze the benefits of developing tools themselves or deploy commercially available solutions to resolve these potential change order producing project delay land mines in the design documents before a design deliverable goes out the door.
