Coffee and a Course: Super Efficient Buildings - Getting to Zero with Passive House

There has been a sharp increase in the number of super high performance multi-family projects in recent years, and a growing number of businesses and municipalities are setting Net Zero Energy goals. The District has established an ambitious target of Net Zero by 2026.

The Passive House program in one pathway for achieving low energy, high performance buildings. Lois Arena of Steven Winter Associates will draw from her recent experience designing, modeling, and testing some of the world’s largest Passive House multifamily buildings and analyze how close to Zero they have come. While there are economies of scale for larger multi-family buildings, these dwellings pose particular challenges when trying to meet Net Zero goals.
