Do you know a student who is graduating from a D.C.-area high school with a permanent residence in the District? The Washington Architectural Foundation (WAF) has sponsored a scholarship for new architecture students since 1999.

Currently the scholarship is $5000 per year, starting in the freshman year, and renews each year until graduation from a four-year or five-year program as long as the student remains in an architecture program anywhere in the United States and maintains a good grade point average.

In 2013, the scholarship was named for Barbara G. Laurie.  Laurie, an architect who was devoted to the Washington Architectural Foundation and the community, was a partner of Devrouax + Purnell, a prominent architecture firm in DC. She was a founding member of the Organization of Black Designers and professor of architecture at Howard University. Scholarships have assisted more than 20 students, Scholarship recipients have access to the WAF and the AIA|DC network of design professionals for mentoring, advice, internships, and educational programs.

Apply today! The deadline is May 31st.
