The AIA|DC Emerging Architects Committee (EAC) promotes education, leadership development, and community involvement among emerging professionals, Associate AIA members, and architects licensed 10 years or less who live or work in Washington, DC. We encourage the next generation of architects to initiate change in our community by leading committees, organizing events, and participating in workshops.
The EAC has four major objectives:
ADVOCATE for emerging architects,
PROVOKE a discussion about the future of the profession,
MENTOR the next generation of architects,
and provide OUTREACH to other AIA members, associated disciplines, and the community.
The EAC and its members organize a robust series of programming each year. The committee:
ADVOCATES through committee representation on the AIA National Associates Committee and Young Architects Forum;
PROVOKES discussions about the profession through the annual Architecture Uncensored series;
MENTORS emerging architects through bimonthly Mentoring Workshop series, an annual Resume & Portfolio Workshop, and the year-long Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program;
and encourages OUTREACH with the building industry through joint events with AIA NOVA’s Young Architects Forum, the Structural Engineers Association of Metropolitan Washington’s Young Members Group (SEAMW-YMG), and the DCBIA’s Young Leader’s Committee.
The EAC also provides outreach to other AIA|DC members and the public through the annual Thesis Showcase and various education programs.
Committee meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Fentress Architects, 1140 Connecticut Ave, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20036, unless otherwise noted. Please see the calendar for exact dates.
The EAC has a variety of sponsorship opportunities available. Contact Sarah Wahlgren Wingo, AIA, for details!
