Please join AIA|DC and HKS for a tour of Virginia’s tallest corporate headquarters building on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Located at the Silver Line McLean Metro stop, Tysons’ newest 31-story high-rise with a 70-foot crown, stands tall at an amazing 470 feet high. The new home of Capital One will house 23 floors of corporate office space with three floors of amenities including conference rooms, dining, special events space, fitness and a basketball court. The facility also includes trendy restaurants and retail at the ground floor, a 6-story entry lobby and below and above grade parking with 1,680 spaces, for a total building area of 1.7 million square feet. The project was designed by HKS Architects, Bonstra|Haresign ARCHITECTS and CallisonRTKL, with Thornton Tomasetti and WSP.
The tour will include the ground floor lobby and internal transportation drop off, an overlook of the stunning 6-story lobby from the 6th floor balcony, a walk-through of the amenity areas including the Sky Lobby on level 7, an office floor, plus a spectacular view of Northern Virginia from the 31st floor. The tour will begin with check-in from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. and a 2-hour tour from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
Please note: This is an active construction site, so please where proper attire. Long pants and close-toed/hard-soled shoes are required. Vests, hard hats and eyewear will be provided.
After attending this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the process of planning, designing and constructing a landmark high-rise project;
- Detail through first-hand observation, the workings of a mass construction site;
- Identify the unique set of challenges and considerations in designing a corporate headquarters; and
- Explore specific design elements in this project from amenities, to public and private spaces.
