Leadership Month has Evolved into the DAC Leadership Series!
The DAC Leadership Series will kick-off on May 28th, 2019! It is an evolution from last year’s Leadership Month, which took place in May of 2018. The Board of Directors felt that we would bring more value to our membership through year-around offerings in lieu of a densely packed month of programming; however the mission will remain the same - to make mentorship a key benefit of AIA membership for architects of all experience levels.
The concept was born in a Board brainstorming session focused on ways the chapter could better support mid-career professionals. We wondered, “How could we reach architects who are no longer ‘emerging,’ but still need guidance as they enter the next phase in their careers?” For emerging architects, strong design or graphic skills, production capability, efficiency, and hard work propel them to the front of the pack - but for the mid-career professionals those traits aren’t enough. Leadership skills are what begin to separate them from all the other pack leaders and set them up for future success within their firms and within the profession.
The DAC Leadership Series is comprised of 5-6 sessions throughout the year based on a common theme. The theme for 2019 is The Future of the Profession, and ties into the AIA|DC Board of Director’s focus for the year. We have several sessions under development, which are outlined below:
Session 1: Understanding Unconscious Bias
May 28, 6:00-8:00pm
Session 2: The Future of the Profession / Artificial Intelligence
August 13, 6:00-8:00pm
Session 3: Leadership Styles for the Next Generation
October 8, 6:30-8:00pm
Session 4: Nontraditional Practice
December 9, 6:30-8:00pm
Later this year we will be developing our Series for 2020 and we welcome your ideas and input for programming and themes. Please come and join us as we discuss new and interesting ways that you can be a leader in the Future of our Profession!
